Data Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of your personal data held by PayGuard. This page explains what we can delete, what we are legally required to retain, and exactly how to submit your request.

Use these URLs when configuring data deletion with third-party platforms (e.g. Facebook Login, Google OAuth).

What we can delete

When you request account deletion, PayGuard will permanently remove the following within 30 calendar days:

  • Your name, email address, and phone number
  • Profile photograph and bio
  • Push notification subscriptions and device tokens
  • Saved preferences and settings
  • Support and dispute message content (where the associated deal is closed)
  • Marketing communication consent records

What must be retained (and why)

Certain data cannot be deleted because PayGuard is legally required to retain it under Ghanaian and international financial regulations:

Transaction and escrow records — retained 7 years

Required by the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2020 (Act 1044) and Bank of Ghana financial record-keeping obligations. Includes deal amounts, payment references, buyer and seller names, and outcome records.

Audit logs — retained 7 years

Every state change on every deal is recorded as an immutable audit log. These cannot be altered or deleted.

KYC and identity documents — retained 5 years after account closure

Seller identity documents are retained per AML and Know Your Customer obligations.

Active deals

Accounts with deals in a FUNDED, DELIVERED, or DISPUTED state cannot be deleted until those deals are resolved. You must complete, dispute, or have those deals resolved before deletion proceeds.

Before you request deletion

Please check the following before submitting:

  • All your active deals (FUNDED, DELIVERED, DISPUTED) are resolved.
  • You have downloaded any receipts or transaction records you need — these will not be accessible after account deletion.
  • If you are a seller, ensure all outstanding payouts have been received.
  • You understand that deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

You can find your transaction history under Account → Deals.

How to request deletion

You may request deletion in two ways:

Option A — In-app (fastest)

Go to Account → Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to confirm your identity before deletion is scheduled.

Option B — Email request

Send an email to privacy@payguardgh.com with the subject line “Data Deletion Request” and include:

  • The email address registered to your PayGuard account
  • Your full name as registered
  • A brief statement confirming you understand that retained transaction data cannot be deleted

We will verify your identity before processing the request. We may ask for additional confirmation if we cannot verify ownership from the email alone.

What happens next

Within 2 business days: We acknowledge your request and verify your identity.

Within 5 business days: We confirm whether any active deals or retention obligations prevent immediate deletion.

Within 30 calendar days: All deletable data is permanently removed from our systems and backups.

Confirmation email: You will receive a confirmation email when deletion is complete.
