The problem
A lot of buying and selling in Ghana now starts on WhatsApp, Instagram and online marketplaces, between people who have never met. Buyers worry about paying and receiving nothing. Honest sellers lose sales because buyers will not pay upfront. Cash on delivery helps a little, but it moves the risk onto the seller and does not work for services.
PayGuard sits in the middle of the transaction so both sides can go ahead. The buyer knows the money is only released after delivery, and the seller knows the buyer has really paid.
How it works
Every protected payment follows the same four steps, and each one is written to an audit trail both sides can rely on.
- 1
Agree
The buyer and seller agree what is being bought and for how much, and PayGuard records it.
- 2
Protect
The buyer pays, and the payment is locked to that order. The seller can see it but cannot touch it.
- 3
Deliver
The seller delivers. Delivery is confirmed by the buyer, or at handover with a one-time code.
- 4
Release or refund
The seller is paid once delivery is confirmed. If something goes wrong, either side can open a dispute and it is decided on the evidence.
Who holds the money
PayGuard is launching with a licensed financial partner that will hold customer funds. PayGuard records the agreement, the delivery evidence and the release or refund decision. PayGuard is not a bank.
We are building the record keeping and controls first, and connecting real money only once a licensed partner, the right agreements and the right checks are in place.
Where we are
PayGuard is in early access. You can create a free account and explore the platform today. Live protected payments open once our licensed financial partner is in place.
